TADEUSZ DERĘGOWSKI

Tadeusz Deręgowski grew up in Aberdeen, Scotland, where he again lives after a long period abroad, mostly in Brazil. He studied painting at Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art in the 80s, and since has traveled extensively for painting, including trips to North Africa, Latin America and the USA. He works in oils, painting plein air, usually depicting landscapes or architecture in an impressionist style. Tadeusz has had work published in The Spectator and The Sunday Telegraph and often exhibits with the Society of Scottish Artists, of which he is a professional member. In 2002 Tadeusz won the Dedalo Award and, in 2016, the Anne Redpath Painting Award for a painting exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy. In 2022 he had a solo exhibition at the University of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil.

A selection for Frauhaus

The selection of 16 pictures spans 13 years and, but for a single still life, consists entirely of landscapes. Many of these are recent and depict Aberdeen. Others are from excursions to Peru and Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil. Another is from a pleasant fortnight in Rome and there is a further painting from grand Chicago. Stylistically, they are fairly consistently impressionist, with occasional nods to 1920s geometricity. The main variations are in size: the most recent pictures are largest. It is hoped with these paintings that viewers enjoy the sense of a spontaneous connection to time and place that the impressionist method can so happily convey.
